High-powered UGC team visits AU

ALLAHABAD: A high-powered team, sent by University Grants Commission (UGC), arrived on the Allahabad University campus, on Monday. The five-member team is on the three-day visit for auditing AU, which is among the list of 11 central universities of the country who are underperforming.

The visit of the team follows the decision of the central government wherein it had suspected that some of the country's most prestigious universities are under-performing and has, hence, had asked to audit them for academic and research quality.

This committee was chaired by Prof Gautam Desiraju of the Indian Institute of Sciences Bangalore.


On their first day on the campus, the team members held a number of meetings at the Senate hall of the arts campus. These meetings included the one with deans of four faculties, HOD's various departments, employees and students etc.


In their separate interactive sessions, the team members heard the problems being faced by the respective fraternity in respect to functioning of AU. The team wanted to access that what is there which is hindering the overall performance of AU and if yes, than what are the suggestions to remove the same.


The team members also met the representatives of the student fraternity and tried to know their perceptive as to what should be done to enhance the performance of AU. They also inquired about the problems faced by students in terms of academics and other facilities that are provided to them.
