GUNTUR: Tension prevailed at the government general hospital here, following the death of a 50-year-old man and subsequent allegations of hospital negligence, on Sunday.

According to sources, Venkatarao belonging to Dodleru village in Krosuru mandal of Guntur district was admitted to the GGH three days ago. The doctors informed the relatives of the patient that the health of Venkatarao is critical and said they cannot give any guarantee for his life even after performing cardiac surgery using a stent.

A team of doctors led by GGH cardiology department head Dr. K Sudhakar performed the surgery on Venkatarao. But, the relatives of Venkatarao alleged that the latter died due to complications from surgery. Venkatarao’s wife Venkatamma and her relatives alleged the negligence of the doctors as the cause of the death and staged a protest demanding action against doctors who treated him.

Dr. Sudhakar said that they have already told the family members of Venkatarao that his chances of survival are less even after surgery. He said that they performed the surgery only after the written assurance from the family members of Venkatarao. He said that the doctors tried their best to save the life of the patient. The aggrieved relatives of the deceased called off protest only after the GGH doctors gave a detailed explanation.
