THANE: Three persons, including two women have been arrested on Monday for the double murder of a mother and daughter in Pimprigaon, Daighar.

On November 5, the victims— Nazia Jamaluddin Siddiqui (32) and her 11-year-old daughter Taniya— were found murdered inside their apartment. The woman's throat was slit and she was stabbed, while her daughter was strangulated to death .

The accused have been identified as Amina Kanchwalla (37) her live-in partner Aliakbar Kanchwalla (28) and her daughter Arshia (19). The accused were finally traced to Karnataka.

DCP D S Swami said that a total of four teams were formed to nab the accused. "The case was complex as there was no technical evidence. The accused did not use mobile phones so it was difficult to track them down. But from the CCTV footage we found vital clues that led us to the accused. As Amina was physically challenged she used a walker to move around. This was spotted on the CCTV which led us to them,'' said Swami.

Arshia used to work for the victim at her house for a while. The cops are trying to probe whether Arshia had an affair with Nazia's brother. According to the cops, Amina suspected that the victim had pushed her daughter into prostitution. The cops are also trying to find out whether robbery was the motive.

Meanwhile, the stolen booty, which included jewellery worth Rs 1.50 lakh and cash amounting to Rs 15,000 is still to be recovered. According to the cops, after the crime the trio boarded a train to Ahemedabad from there they went to Indore then Bhopal and finally landed at a dargha in Gulbarga, Karnataka. "Our team found out that Amina's brother worked at a dargha in Gulbarga. We went there and arrested the trio,'' he said.
