A 14-year-old boy was killed and his friend critically injured when a speeding sedan hit their bicycle in Raj Nagar Extension on Sunday morning. The driver has been arrested.

“Samarth Tyagi and 15-year-old friend Kunal were on a bicycle around 7.30 a.m. when a speeding car hit them from behind near Nandi Park on Pusa Road and dragged them for several metres. The car came to a stop after it hit the divider,” said Sihani Gate police station SHO Vinod Kumar Pandey.

Locals nab driver

The driver allegedly tried to flee but was nabbed by locals.

“The locals took the boys to a nearby hospital, where Samarth was declared dead on arrival and Kunal was admitted to the ICU,” Mr. Pandey added.

Samarth’s father said the boys had left home to play cricket as usual on Sunday.

The driver has been identified as Akshat Agarwal, a native of Meerut and resident of Indirapuram.

During interrogation, Mr. Agarwal said he had purchased a flat in Raj Nagar recently and was in a hurry to return to Indirapuram when he lost control of the car and hit the boys near Pusa Road. Samarth’s body has been sent for post-mortem. He was a student of Mother India Public school.
