Panaji: With plans to launch three electric models in India by 2020, German luxury automobile manufacturer Audi intends to make sure that one third of its sales comprise fully electric or hybrid cars by 2025. Speaking to TOI, Audi India head Rahil Ansari said that while Audi was ready to bring electric vehicles to India, it was waiting for the government to create the required infrastructure for hybrid and fully electric vehicles across the country.

With India trying to encourage electric vehicles by 2030, Audi plans to introduce electric variants of its cars after 2020, said Ansari.

"We are in a position to also bring electric vehicles to India but we need to ensure together with all of the stakeholders from the government and manufacturers, to work towards an adequate infrastructure," Ansari told TOI.

While all automakers have welcomed the move towards electric drive vehicles, the lack of a sufficient push towards development of the required infrastructure was a concern.

"There has to be also an investment in terms of charging stations, the facilities from the dealerships to homes and what is the impact on the electricity cost for customers. There has to be clear road map on how we are going to achieve this," Ansari said.
