At least 16 people died after a boat capsized in Krishna river in Krishna district's Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.
The boat, which was carrying around 30 people, capsized near the Ibrahim Patnam mandal area at around 5.30 pm. Teams of the National Disaster Relief Force were brought in to carry out search and rescue.

Soon after the incident, the Andhra Pradesh government announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the bereaved, ANI reported.
The agency also reported that the boat capsized as it was about to reach its destination and that a survivor in the incident had alleged that the boat was overloaded.
