Still 'severe', Varanasi air slightly better

VARANASI: After being declared the most polluted city of the country in terms of Air Quality Index (AQI) on Friday, Varanasi witnessed a slight improvement in pollution level on Saturday.


At 4pm on Saturday, the average value of air quality in the past 24 hours released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) stood at 429. The corresponding figure on Friday was 491-highest in the country. Despite the dip in AQI, the quality of air was still described as severe on Saturday. As per the real-time monitoring station at Ardhali Bazar, the pollution level of PM2.5 touched the mark of 666 on Saturday.
