Over 30 Hindu houses torched in Bangladesh, 53 arrested

ANI  |  Dhaka [Bangladesh]

Over thirty houses of Hindus have been torched in over rumours that an offensive status was posted allegedly by a youth from the minority community.

The situation in Thakurbari Village is still tense, as a man was killed when police opened fire to ward off the angry mob that turned violent and launched the arson attack on Hindu homes, reported the Dhaka Tribune.

At least 53 persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the arson attack on homes belonging to Hindus.

A three-member committee has been formed to look into the incident, Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Wahiduzzaman was quoted by the Dhaka Tribune as saying.

The committee has been asked to file a report within seven days, the report said.
