IN A joint operation, a team of Chandigarh and Jind police arrested notorious gangster, Neeraj Kumar (22), wanted in more than 15 cases of extortion, kidnapping, murder, attempt to murder and Arms Act from Sector 40 in Chandigarh on Saturday. Neeraj was absconding for the last two months along with two of his associates, Randeep, alias Kala, aka Bagra and Raja.

Sources said the three gangsters had taken shelter at a PG accommodation of a 19-year-old student in Sector 40. Randeep and Raja, who left Chandigarh two days back, were arrested by the Jind police on Friday. Their sustained interrogation led a police party of Jind district to Chandigarh.

Inspector Narender Patial, in charge of the operations cell, Chandigarh, said, “Jind police shared the information with our senior police officers and a joint team was constituted. We raided the particular location, which was disclosed by the two apprehended accused to Jind police and found Neeraj there. Though he attempted to escape, we caught him. He has been taken to Jind by the Jind police. His two other associates are in the custody of the crime branch of Jind police.”

Police sources said Neeraj disclosed during initial interrogation that they had two country-made weapons with them and both were taken away by Randeep and Raja.

A senior Haryana police officer, who accompanied the raiding party of Jind police, said the three gangsters had jumped regular bail in different cases. He added that the three gangsters have five other associates, who are absconding, and raids were on to nab them. Police officials said the accused were also involved in several gang wars. Meanwhile, police grilled a Sector 40 youngster, who allowed the three gangsters to share his PG accommodation, and let off him after questioning.
