The four newly inaugurated sewage treatment plants can treat 136 MLD of sewage | Express

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the city will be in a position to treat its entire waste water discharge of 1,400 Million Litres Per Day by the year 2020. It is now in a position to treat up to 982 MLD of sewage water following the commissioning of four Sewage Treatment Plants on Saturday.

Taking part in a function to commission the STPs inside the premises of the Bellandur Amanikere STP, the CM said 136 MLD of sewage can be treated because of the newly inaugurated plants. “The problems suffered in Varthur, Bellandur and Agara Lakes due to discharge of untreated water can be redressed because of them,” he said.

Stating that by 2020, the city would be in position to treat 1577 MLD, he said that the total sewage discharged would only be 1400 MLD. “Till 2015, just half of all discharged which accounted for 720 MLD could be treated,” he said. The government was spending `2000 crore to provide underground water and drainage to 110 villages which have been added to the BBMP, he pointed out.

“An MoU will be signed with Japan International Agency to ensure 770 MLD of water is supplied to the City under Cauvery Water Supply Scheme Stage V,” he said. Chief Representative of JICA Takema Sakamoto said that that a Japan Industrial Township was being set up in the city.
