PUNE: A woman and her two children were run over by an express train at the Pimpri railway station on Sunday afternoon. All the three were crossing the tracks when the accident occurred.
According to Government Railway Police (GRP) officers, Pune railway station police station, they were crossing the railway tracks at the Pimpri railway station and failed to cross safely when Kolhapur-Mumbai Koyna Express was passing around 4.30pm.
The GRP officers said that the identities of the deceased were not established till late in the night.
The woman is around 35 years old and was wearing a salwar kameez, while the boy, who is about 10 years old, was wearing shorts and a green t-shirt and the girl, who is about 12 years old, was wearing a pink blouse.
Many people cross the railway tracks from the neighbouring slums, police said, adding that there is a vegetable market on one side while the other has a mutton market. Shoppers and local residents cross the tracks at this spot regularly despite warnings from the GRP and railway authorities.
