GHAZIABAD: With just two weeks left for civic polls, political parties are busy garnering public support for their mayor and councillor candidates. In coming days, the city is expected to see a slew of road shows and public rallies by state as well as national leaders of all political parties. While BJP, AAP and Congress have invited senior leaders to address public, Samajwadi Party and BSP will mostly rely on past and present MLAs and MPs.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Union minister and MP Gen VK Singh (retd), Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari and UP BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey are the four star campaigners of the party in Ghaziabad for civic polls.
"The CM will hold a public rally on November 18 here. Efforts are on to rope in Mathura MP Hema Malini also as a campaigner," said BJP city president Ajay Sharma.
The AAP too has made an elaborate plan to engage with public with an aim to make its presence in NCR. The party's national spokesperson Sanjay Singh along with Ashutosh, and MLAs Imran Hussain and Amanatullah Khan will hold five back-to-back public meetings in city on November 17.
Sachin Sharma, AAP convener, Ghaziabad, said: "Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and senior leader Kumar Vishwas have been invited. The dates of their meetings are yet to be fixed." Sharma further said, the party's mayor candidate Pragati Tyagi is star campaigner for contenders of councillor posts.
The BSP will rely on its present and past MLAs/MPs for campaigning, while its sole star campaigner and party supremo Mayawati will not hold a single rally anywhere.
The SP too will rely on its MPs and MLAs, who would participate in campaigns called on by candidates. SP city president JP Kashyap said, "Akhilesh Yadav will not come for campaigning."
Congress has decided to field UPCC chief Raj Babbar, general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, MP Pramod Tiwari and former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat as its main campaigners in Ghaziabad.
