Rape accused who escaped from train held

RANCHI: Gumla police nabbed a rape accused on Saturday who escaped from custody after jumping off a running train near Navi Nagar railway station when he was being brought to Jharkhand from Haryana.


The special investigation team (SIT) arrested Anwar Khan who is accused of abducting a minor girl. Police produced the accused before court, which forwarded him to jail. Khan had allegedly pushed the policeman escorting him when he was going to the toilet and escaped right after the train left the station.


"We arrested him within 24 hours of his escape," Anshuman Kumar, Gumla superintendent of police said. A case (21/17) was registered against the accused at Chainpur police station in this connection. The SIT also rescued the minor girl from Karnal district of Haryana and brought her back to Gumla. TNN
