Government assistance under various schemes for Muslim minorities has been released by Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishnamurthy here marking the 129th birth anniversary of former Union Education Minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
Speaking at an event at the Osmania College on Saturday, he said Azad had implemented reforms to strengthen the education sector and promote technical education and hence his birth anniversary was declared as the National Education Day. Principal Secretary of Minority Welfare Praveen Kumar said the government allotted ₹285 crore for disbursal of scholarships to Muslims.
Mini Haj House
Collector S. Satyanarayana read out Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s message and said Hindu-Muslim unity was vital for national progress. A mini Haj House was being built with an outlay of ₹3 crore, he said.
Later, the Deputy CM and the Ministers gave away a cheque for ₹1.45 crore to 291 Dulhan beneficiaries, ₹8.26 crore for 530 beneficiaries under various schemes, ₹1.54 crore for 11 shaadikhanas, ₹48 lakh towards wages for moazzams and imams and ₹1.60 crore to 34 groups through MEPMA.
