JAISALMER: One-and-a-half-year-old Sanskar, who is just learning to walk, was abandoned by his father because he suffers from thalassemia. Sanskar's father threw him and his mother Meena out of the house when he came to know about the disease.

The disease calls for blood transfusion every 15 days. Meena, who also suffers from the same disease, is now staying at her parents' house. Meena's father is bearing the cost of their treatment.

They have approached the district collector KC Meena and the women's commission for help.

Meena was married to one Bhairu Singh of Jaislamer. He left her a few months after marriage. However, facing pressure from the society, Bhairu Singh brought her back. When she delivered her first child, he was found suffering from thalassemia. So, he again threw his wife and son out of the house.

Meena's father Hanuman said he tried to persuade his son-in-law many times, but he is not ready to accept Meena.

Hanuman said his family is poor and he earns his livelihood by selling vegetables on push cart. With great difficulty, he is managing to treat his daughter and grandson.

He even went to Jodhpur and Ahmedabad for their treatment, but doctors suggested him to go to Mumbai. Having no money for the expensive treatment, Hanuman has approached the Jaipur district women's commission.

Commission chairperson Sudha Vyas said efforts would be made to provide allowance to the victim although the case is under consideration in the court.
