President to launch schemes worth Rs 2,300 crore in Jharkhand on November 15

RANCHI: President Ram Nath Kovind will launch public schemes and projects worth Rs 2,300 crore in Jharkhand on the occasion of statehood day, the state government said on Sunday.

Kovind, who assumed office this year, will make his first Jharkhand visit as President on November 15, which also marks the 17th foundation day of the state and the 142nd birth anniversary of revolutionary Birsa Munda.

Kovind will be the chief guest of the statehood day celebrations organized by Jharkhand government at the Morhabadi Ground. Here, he will inaugurate the free 108 ambulance services scheme. Under the scheme, 329 life support system equipped ambulances will provide free round the clock service across the state.

The President will inaugurate the Mukhyamantri Swasth Bima Yojana. The medical insurance scheme will give premium free medical cover to 57 lakh households whose annual incomes are less than Rs 72,000.

He will also inaugurate the Raghubar Das government's Johar Yojana. The new scheme will focus on creating employment in rural areas by initiating micro-irrigation projects.

Additional chief secretary, home, SKG Rahate said three new projects, which include construction of two flyovers and a road widening project in Ranchi, may also be inaugurated by Kovind.

The total cost of the three projects would be Rs 1,000 crore.


The President will give away several benefits to over 35,000 benefactors at the function. He will hand over appointment letters to new appointee principals of universities and teachers of government schools, specialists and doctors of the state health, medical education and family welfare department and policemen being appointed on the ground of compassion.


He will also distribute 40,000 tablets to the teachers under Manki Munda and e-Vidya Vahini schemes and unveil a commemorative stamp on the terracotta temple complex in Maluti village in Dumka.


The President's five hour Ranchi visit will include a brief stop-over at Raj Bhawan. He will also visit the Yogada Satsang Society's headquarter in Ranchi for half an hour before returning.


The government said security measures for the statehood day function is being put in place. "We have conducted an advanced security review for the President's visit on Saturday. Accordingly, barricades, lock gates and diversions will be erected on the day," Rahate added.
