Says there are a host of forensic tools to solve cases

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday decried the tendency among a section of law enforcers to resort to third degree methods to solve cases.

Speaking at a passing-out parade of Special Armed Police Battalion constables here, Mr. Vijayan said the government has repeatedly stressed that it would not condone the use of torture as a policing tool.

'Reduced to ash heap of history'

The colonial age when the police were a tool of State repression has been reduced to the ash heap of history, he said.

In the scientific age, law enforcers had a host of forensic tools to solve cases. He also flagged up corruption among a minority of police officers as an issue of much concern for the government.

State Police Chief Loknath Behera and CM’s private secretary M. V. Jayarajan were present.
