The city police on Saturday arrested Babu, 56, of Chullikkal near Thoppumpady, on the charge of bludgeoning his younger brother Nelson to death using a grinding stone. This was the second time Babu was being arrested on fratricide charge.
Last year, the Palluruthy police had arrested him in the murder of another of his brothers, Milton, following a dispute over the partition of the ancestral property at Chullikkal.
As per the case, Babu had stabbed Milton 18 times.
After obtaining bail in the case, Babu, who had separated from his wife and children, had been living with Nelson.
Drunken brawl
In the present case, Babu entered into a drunken brawl with Nelson.
Officials said, “Nelson picked an argument with Babu following a drinking session and in a fit of rage, the latter smashed the head, shoulder and chest of Nelson using a grinding stone. Both the shoulder bones and ribs of Nelson were broken in the process. On an alert, a police team rushed to the spot and took Nelson to a hospital. He, however, succumbed to the injuries later”.
A medical examination attributed Nelson’s death to cardiac arrest caused by the severe injuries. A police team later examined the scene of the crime to collect scientific evidence and also recovered the grinding stone used for the crime.
Babu had earlier served a jail term of two years for raping a 3-year-old girl in Kannur in 2011. He will be produced before a magistrate court on Sunday.
