The Central Crime Station (CCS) police arrested a notorious temple thief, Eemani Rambabu alias Ram Pavan, who was allegedly involved in many temple thefts in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Police recovered 95 gm of gold ornaments stolen from different temples. The accused, who visit temples posing as a devotee, used to divert the attention of the priests and other staff and escape with valuables, said Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) B.V. Ramana Kumar.
Disclosing this to the newsmen here on Friday, he said the accused stole gold jewellery in Sri Seetaramalayam, Sri Kanakadurga temple, Sri Siddeswara Peetham, Sri Bhuvaneswari Ammavari shrine, Sri Anjaneya Swamy temple, Sri Mahalakshmi Ammavari temple and other shrines in Vijayawada police commissionerate limits.
Two arrested
In a separate case, the CCS sleuths arrested two house burglars, M. Balakrishna and D. Yesobu, and recovered 8.5 kg of silver ornaments, 20 gm of gold and ₹10,000 cash from their possession. The accused were wanted in many theft cases earlier.
In another case, police apprehended two robbers, N. Ashok and G. Upendra, are seized 110 gm of gold ornaments, 300 gm of silver jewellery and ₹2.20 lakh cash from them. The modus operandi of the accused is to conduct ‘recce’ and strike at locked houses during night hours, said Mr. Ramana Kumar.
Deputy Commissioners of Police J. Brahma Reddy, T.K. Rana and Ghajarao Bhupal, Assistant Commissioners of Police Sunder Raju, Varma and other officers were present.
