Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal writes to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia

Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal wrote to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday on the issue of a proposal related to ‘Schools of Excellence’ to inform the latter that his Secretariat never received the proposal.

Weekly meetings

Mr. Baijal’s communication was in reference to Mr. Sisodia’s letter, which had raised the issue that the Directorate of Education had removed all references related to ‘Services’ while putting up the draft Cabinet note related to ‘Schools of Excellence’.

“The L-G has stated that this proposal for opening of ‘Schools of Excellence’ in Delhi was never received by his Secretariat nor was the issue ever raised by the Chief Minister in any of their weekly meetings,” Raj Niwas said in a statement.

According to Raj Niwas, the L-G also said that he had been given to understand that the matter has been pending in the office of Deputy Chief Minister since the first week of September.

“The L-G has further stated that he continues to support any proposal which improves the quality of education in government schools in Delhi, provided it is as per rules and laws. The L-G emphasised that a solution could have been found in this case also as per the scheme of governance of the Capital, if he was apprised of this issue in time,” the statement said further.

‘Shared concern’

The statement added that they could have had a joint meeting with all stakeholders concerned to iron out any wrinkles in smooth implementation of this proposal in addition to requesting Mr. Sisodia that the proposal be sent to him expeditiously as per rules so that there is no further loss of time “since interest of the students of Delhi is their shared concern”.
