HYDERABAD: Hyderabad city police commissioner M Mahendar Reddy, a 1986-batch officer, was appointed as the in-charge DGP on Friday. The chief minister cleared the file following incumbent Anurag Sharma’s superannuation. The government has appointed Sharma as an adviser to the Home Department, with the rank of a Cabinet Minister, for a period of three years. VV Srinivasa Rao, additional police commissioner (law & order-Hyderabad) will be the in-charge police commissioner of Hyderabad.
Mahendar Reddy said the department would give top priority to safety and security of denizens in the capital city and State. He said Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates would be given equal importance as Hyderabad city.
“If any person seeks assistance of policemen, we have to act in a jiffy without wasting time and take measures to solve their issues. A number of Telugu people prefer to visit foreign countries and woman passengers travel alone as they trust the law enforcement agencies over there for prompt response and security. In Telangana, we want to do similar things in strengthening our safety and security,’’ Mahendar Reddy said.
Keeping in mind of people’s perspective of Hyderabad brand image, the state police would take security measurers for security and safety of people. The newly appointed In-Charge DGP, who introduced many reforms in his assignment as Commissioner of Hyderabad police, would extend these projects across the state and implement in all districts.
“I brought many reforms in Hyderabad city. For instance, traffic police have a tough time in collecting challan amounts from motor vehicles for violating traffic rules. Even 70 percent police do their job well, remaining 30 percent violate rules by accepting bribe. To prevent such activity, we introduced e-Challan system by issuing challans to curb cash transactions. We will expand the system across the state, in reduce corruption activities,’’ Mahendar Reddy said.
