The city police have arrested two persons for an alleged derogatory post on Mangaluru North MLA Mohiuddin Bava on a social networking site.
The police gave the names of the arrested persons as Ashwath Kumar, an interior designer, and Yatish, an employee of a finance company.
The police said the residents’ association of Angaragundi had planned to hold Tipu Jayanti on Thursday. The association had invited former Bajrang Dal Convenor Mahendra Kumar for the function. Harris, an office-bearer of the residents’ association, had reportedly shared details of the event on his Facebook account four days ago.
The police said on Thursday Ashwath Kumar and Yatish criticised the association on Facebook for the holding the programme and calling Mahendra Kumar for the programme. In their comment, Kumar and Yatish referred to the Mangaluru North MLA as a “notorious” legislator and accused the latter of having links with terrorist organisations.
On a complaint by Harris, the Panambur police arrested Kumar and Yatish for offence under the Information Technology Act on Friday. The two were produced before the local magistrate, who remanded them to judicial custody.
