PATNA: The upcoming sports complex at Rajgir in Nalanda district, which will have an international cricket stadium, a football stadium and facilities for 24 different outdoor and indoor games, will be ready by 2019 end.
According to state building construction department (BCD) sources, the detailed project report (DPR) of this state-of-the-art complex has been prepared by Delhi based M/s Arcop Associate Pvt Ltd. Only two days back, the DPR was handed over to the BCD which has been assigned the construction work.
BCD executive engineer Chanakya Kumar Singh said the department would examine the DPR, after which it would float tender to invite construction firms for building the complex within 24 months. "Since the DPR is voluminous, we will need at least a week to study it," he told TOI on Saturday.
The DPR has estimated that the sports complex along with academy hostels will cost Rs 669 crore, including Rs 258 crore to be spent on the cricket stadium alone. The BCD has already acquired 98 acres of land in Tilkhi panchayat, 4km from the Rajgir town, for the purpose and work was on to construct a boundary wall.
State BCD minister Maheshwar Hazari said the world-class sports complex would provide an opportunity to Bihar to host national and international cricket matches, which in turn would attract tourists. "Sports ranging from kabaddi and kho-kho to lawn tennis and badminton can be played at the complex," he said.
The sports academy to be housed in the complex will be equipped with library, fitness centre, research centre and hostel facility, separate for boys and girls and each with the capacity to accommodate 400 trainees. The cricket stadium, proposed to be constructed in accordance with the guidelines of International Cricket Council, will have the capacity to seat 40,000 visitors at a time.
