Lindstrom Group, a Finnish workwear service company set up in 1848, is contemplating establishing cleanroom laundries in Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Vadodara. The group’s Indian arm Lindstrom India has 11 facilities across the country to service workwear of various industries, hotels, healthcare and other firms. With headquarters in Mumbai, Lindstrom India launched its facility near the Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City, Parawada near here, in July.
During his maiden visit to the new facility, Lindstrom Group president and CEO Juha Laurio told The Hindu that they would set up India’s first cleanroom laundry in Pune in March. The facility specialises in putting particle count as per specifications in uniforms used by workers in pharmaceutical units manufacturing vaccines.
Discussions were at various stages for starting such Greenfield facilities in Visakhapatnam after getting good response to the initiative in Hyderabad, Vadodara and Bengaluru.
Vizag facility
The Vizag facility is being used by 7,000 to 10,000 people and one lakh garments are serviced everyday for 1,000 companies through 11 facilities in India, Lindstrom India Managing Director Anupam Chakrabarty said.
To a query, he said the Vizag facility was catering to the needs of Vijayawada and parts of Southern Odisha. Based on potentiality, the company wanted to expand its facilities in India, he said.
Mr. Chakrabarty said being in the business of promoting hygiene, they had contributed immensely to the Swachh Bharat campaign by recycling 74% of the textile waste and aimed at increasing to 90% this year. The firm is also providing clean drinking water and hygienic facilities in schools in rural areas of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan covering 2,500 schools and benefiting 10 lakh children, he informed.
