Licences of second-time offenders to be cancelled

A dentist, Chaganti Suryadeep, who met with a road accident was saved as he was wearing a headgear. He survived with minor injuries on Thursday.

Suryadeep rammed a water tanker that was watering the saplings planted on the landscape, when he was on the way to a hospital from Enikepadu.

The helmet saved the doctor and he did not suffer any head injuries, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Law and Order) T.K. Rana.

Police to cancel licence

The DCP said that the police will cancel driving license of the vehicle-rider, if he or she is booked twice for driving without helmet. The police will write to the Transport Department officials and get the license of the person blocked, if he is caught on similar charges for two times, he clarified. Police conducted special drives to implement helmet rule and registered 10,000 cases against the bike riders for not using headgears.

Special drives were conducted at all major junctions and roads in the last two months and the raids will continue, the DCP said.
