Mass rally to begin from Museum Junction at 10.30 a.m.

Tension prevailed near the University College at Palayam on Friday as flex boards pertaining to a mass rally to be taken out by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the city on Saturday were found damaged.

The police have stepped up vigil near the college, which is considered a stronghold of the Students Federation of India (SFI). The incident is believed to have taken place late on Thursday.

Precautionary measures would be adopted to prevent any flare-up during the mass rally, the police said.

Meanwhile, the ABVP is all set to take out a Chalo Kerala march in which close to 1 lakh activists, including those from other States, are expected to take part.

The rally, which is being organised in protest against the alleged violence unleashed by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) will commence from Museum Junction around 10.30 a.m.

The procession will pass through Palayam and Statue before culminating at the Putharikandam ground.

ABVP national president Nagesh Thakur and national general secretary Vinay Bidre will lead the public meeting.

Mass run organised

A mass-run was organised in connection with the rally on Friday.

Suresh Gopi, MP, and Mr. Thakur flagged it off at the Martyrs’ Column at Palayam.

The run concluded at Gandhi Park.
