Three killed in accidents

Two of them students of a college in the city

Two college students were killed in an accident at Kamaleswaram on Friday. The youths were killed after the motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a scooter and an autorickshaw.

The City traffic police, which registered a case, identified the deceased as Aravind, 19, of Mannamoola, near Peroorkada, and Adityan, 19, of Vattiyurkavu. The incident took place around 1.30 p.m. when the youths, both first-year students of the National College of Arts and Science, near Kamaleswaram, were headed for their homes from the institute, the police said.

According to the police, the motorcycle is believed to have collided with the scooter before hitting the autorickshaw.

Three injured

The passengers on the scooter, Thayub and Thahira, and autorickshaw driver Shajahan were soon rushed to Government Medical College Hospital here. While the couple sustained minor injuries, Shajahan is believed to have sustained serious head injuries and is in a critical condition.

The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to the mortuary of the medical college hospital and will be handed over to their families after post-mortem on Saturday.

While the police were yet to arrive at a conclusion, preliminary findings suggest that the incident could have been caused by speeding of the motorcycle, official sources said.

Cameraman killed

In another accident, a 56-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a truck at Neyyattinkara.

The deceased has been identified as Radhakrishnan Nair of Kuzhivilakathu Veedu.

He was a former cameraman with Surya TV.

According to the Neyyattinkara police, the incident took place at Kalluvila around 2.15 p.m. The motorist was thrown off the two-wheeler on the impact of the collision.

He is survived by his wife Sathyabhama and his children Akshay and Jagan. A case has been registered in connection with the incident.
