VIJAYAWADA: Notification of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Chairman’s election will be issued on November 14 and election will be held on November 15. Telugu Desam party has nominated NMD Farooq, the newly made MLC from Kurnool. He is expected to get elected unanimously, as there are no others in the race for the post.

His election as the Council chairman has now become a formality. Farooq, a senior leader of Telugu Desam, will be the first Minority leader to get elected to the Legislative Council Chairman’s post. Meanwhile, the ruling party has also decided to appoint Chief Whip and Whips in the Council. One among three MLCs - Payyavula Keshav, YB Rajendra Prasad, and P Ramasubba Reddy -- is likely to be made the chief whip. An announcement to this effect is likely to be made after the election.

According to sources, TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu was very happy for the role played by Farooq in ensuring party’s victory in Nandyal by-election. Nandyal Assembly constituency has a sizable Muslim population, which can decide the fate of the contestants.
