Some of them will have advanced features like number plate reader

The Krishna district police have identified 1,167 locations, including national highways, to install state-of-the-art cameras to put a check on road mishaps apart from keeping a vigil on the roads.

Superintendent of Police Sarvasresth Tripathy on Friday said 214 locations were identified to install PTZ cameras (Pan-Tilt-Zoom), which would cover at least 700 metres of distance from the respective location. However, 953 fixed cameras would be installed in the remaining locations across the district, excluding Vijayawada city. The PTZ camera has features such as automatic number plate reader, red light violation detector and face recognition system.

“The technology-based initiative is to bring down the crime rate on the roads, besides ensuring better road safety,” added Mr. Tripathy.

Experts from Matrix Securities and Surveillance Limited led by A. Nageswara Rao here on Friday shared their ideas on the benefits of the PTZ and other cameras. Sub-inspectors were told to recommend new locations where cameras need to be installed.
