Students’ suicide: Telangana to act tough on corporate colleges

HYDERABAD: Keeping in view the increasing number of student suicides in corporate junior colleges across Telangana, the state government has decided to initiate action against managements of these institutions.

Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari announced on Friday that the state government was taking steps to register criminal cases against corporate junior colleges where students, unable to bear the pressure exerted by the management for top ranks, are resorting to the extreme step.

“Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education has issued show-cause notices to 194 errant junior colleges across the state which indulged in pressuring students for getting top ranks,” Srihari told the Council while replying to a question raised during the Question Hour on Friday.

“Affiliation to junior colleges in March 2018 would be given only if managements comply with directions of State Board of Intermediate Education. The education department is drafting guidelines for all corporate colleges in order to ease academic pressure on students,” he said.

From next academic year, government will make public the list of junior colleges which do not have government recognition, he said.

Farmers welcome formation of Rythu Samanvaya Samithi

Hyderabad: Farmers in the state have welcomed the state’s decision to form Rythu Samanvaya Samithis, said TRS MLA Vemula Veeresham. Initiating the short discussion on “`8,000 investment support to farmers-formation of Rythu Samanvaya Samithis” in the Sate Legislative Assembly on Friday, Veeresham said that the Rytu Samithis were being constituted irrespective of the political identity of the farmers.
