Highway robber arrested

ALLAHABAD: highway robber, belonging to an inter-district gang involved in looting trucks and holding drivers and cleaners captive on highways, was arrested near Mama Bhanja crossing in Allahabad on Friday.

He was identified as Shakir Ali, a resident of Mandhata in Pratapgarh district.


The police have also recovered one looted truck, one stolen car, a motorcycle, cash, a mobile phone, one 0.315 bore country-made pistol and cartridges from his hideout.


The police are now looking for three other members of the gang identified as Sarwar, Seebu alias Haseeb and Iqrar, residents of Pratapgarh and Allahabad. The gang was active for the past one year, SP (trans-Yamuna) DN Chaudhary said. The gang used to target trucks coming from Madhya Pradesh and heading towards Bihar and other states.


The arrested miscreants said they used to get Rs 10,000 for a truck from the purchaser.
