The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has lashed out at the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] for allegedly working against the interests of the country.
ABVP national president Nagesh Thakur, who led the ‘Chalo Kerala March’ organised here on Saturday in protest against the alleged CPI(M) atrocities, accused the CPI(M) of striving to annihilate its political rivals and sought to impede democratic ideals. “The party has unleashed violence against Sangh Parivar activists in a bid to prevent the latter’s organisational activities in the State. By its actions, the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government has become a blot on the image of Kerala,” he said.
He said the mass rally organised by the ABVP would become a milestone in the State’s history. The sacrifice made by many who had fallen victims to the ‘red terror’ would not go waste, Mr. Thakur said.
ABVP general secretary Vinay Bidre alleged that as many as 14 Sangh Parivar activists had been killed since the CPI(M)-led government came to power in the State. Besides, around 300 ABVP workers had come under attack by the Students Federation of India (SFI) with attempts to murder being made against 200 of them.
'High literacy rate and living standards'
“The State boasts of high literacy rate, high standards of living, and rich cultural heritage. However, the CPI(M)-led government has been pulling the State behind through its actions and ideology,” he said. He accused the CPI(M) of impeding freedom of speech even as it advocated the sam.
He demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the political killings that had taken place since the LDF government came to power. ABVP organising secretary Sunil Ambekar alleged that the CPI(M) spoke of freedom, but did not believe in democratic values. “Similarly, while they have raised slogans for women empowerment and uplift of marginalised sections, they have always sought to oppress them,” he said.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary Sadanandan, former ABVP general secretary Sreehari Borikar, secretaries Kishore Burman and O. Nidhish, State secretary P. Shyamraj and Delhi University students’ union secretary Mahamedhaa Nagar were among those who spoke on the occasion. The next-of-kin of those who were allegedly killed by CPI(M) activists also participated in the public meeting.
