Iconic scooter brand Lambretta is back with a bang! The Italian scooter manufacturer has made a comeback with three new products.
Lambretta has unveiled its three new scooters, the V50 Special, V125 Special and V200 Special at the 2017 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. Autocar India reports that the brand will make its India entry in 2019.
Lambretta scooters were assembled in India between the 1950s to 1990s under the license of Automobile Products of India (API) and then Scooters India Limited (SIL). Lambretta vanished from the global market for two decades due to a financial crisis.
Now, Lambretta is back with its new products which feature classic design elements and modern technology. The overall design of the new scooters resembles the classic scooters of the 1950s to 1990s. Lambretta has named the scooter as V Special, which indeed looks special.
All the three models, the V50 Special, V125 Special and V200 Special gets two variants - with the fixed fender and flexed fender. The new range of scooters from Lambretta will be manufactured in Taiwan and will be retailed in Europe by early-2018.
Out of the three models, the V50 Special is the smallest with a 49cc air-cooled engine producing 3.4bhp and 3.4Nm of torque. Powering the V125 Special is a 124.7cc fuel-injected engine producing 9.9bhp and 9.2Nm of torque.
The top-of-the-range V200 Special draws power from a 168.9cc fuel injected engine producing 12bhp and 12.5Nm of torque. The CVT gearbox is common across all the three models.
The Lambretta V Specials are loaded with features such as LED headlamp, taillamp and turn indicators, 220mm disc brake, telescopic forks, and a 12-volt charging socket. The top-spec V200 Special also gets Bosch ABS.
DriveSpark Thinks!
The modern Lambretta scooter features a right blend of classic design and technology. The Italian company plans to enter the Indian market by 2019. The pricing will be a key factor for Lambretta to be successful in the country. The company is expected to enter the Indian market as an independent brand rather than collaborating with local firms.
