Maliwal meets Rajnath

Following an increase in the number of minors getting raped in the Capital, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal on Friday met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Ms. Maliwal demanded the constitution of a high-level committee to mete out immediate punishments to the accused.

Death penalty

“We want to launch a satyagraha against a system, which is sleeping. We want a system in the country where every individual who rapes a child is given death penalty within six months. That is the only way to deter such crimes. That is why we have been requesting for a meeting between the Home Minister, Chief Minister, Police Commissioner and the DCW at least before Children’s Day,” said Ms. Maliwal.

“Mr. Singh assured that he will take up the issue and get back to us,” added Ms. Maliwal.
