Legislative Council Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy on Friday expressed displeasure that it would not be possible to hold the legislature session for 60 days this year and attributed this to non-co-operation from the legislators and the government.
Addressing presspersons here, he said this year the number of session days will only be 40, including the 10-day session to be held from November 13 in Belagavi. “It was possible to hold the session for 60 days only in 2015,” he said.
Asked on the disqualification of eight MLCs, who provided false information that they were residents of Bengaluru so they could vote in the Bengaluru mayoral elections, Mr. Shankaramurthy said he had to take legal opinion from the Attorney General (AG). “This is pending because the AG is busy with Cauvery and other issues,” he said.
On the cost of holding the session in Belagavi, the Chairman said the government would incur a cost of nearly ₹26 crore. During the session, MLCs will be taken on a tour of the Karwar Seabird project. So far, 805 questions have been received, including 730 unstarred questions, he added.
