Agriculture, higher edu depts get new buildings

CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurated many new buildings for Agriculture department, including two godowns each with a capacity to store 2,000 tonnes of agricultural produces, at Red Hills in Tiruvallur district and Mayilampadi in Erode district.

The godowns have been built at a total cost of `3.62 crore. He declared open the facility through video-conferencing at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

New buildings for six Agriculture Extension Centres at Sembanarkoil (Nagapattinam dt), Perambalur, Pudupalayam and Thurinjapuram (Tiruvannamalai dt) and Vanur and Marakkanam (Villupuram dt), built at a total cost of `9 crore, regulated markets at Manalurpet (Villupuram dt) and at Valangaiman (Tiruvarur dt), turmeric processing centre at Ammapalayam in Tiruvannamalai district, an auction centre at Villarasampatti in Erode district and a horticulture technical resource centre at Tiruvannamalai were among the other buildings declared open by the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also commenced distribution of seed packets of five vegetables, under roof garden scheme to people.

Five persons received the packets in person. In all, 6.25 lakh packets would be distributed.
Meanwhile, Palaniswami also inaugurated new buildings for higher education department constructed at a cost of `34.41 crore, including classrooms for polytechnic college, at Raghunathapuram in Thanjavur district.
