SURAT: Navsari town that gave a huge reception to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on November 3, warmed up to BJP leader and Union textile minister Smriti Irani during her visit on Saturday.
Women folk crowded around her as she was once their favourite bahu — Tulsi — of small screen and competed with each other to get a selfie with the minister.
Navsari district BJP president Naresh Patel said, "Smriti was in town as a part of our party's door-to-door mahasampark abhiyan. People seemed very happy to meet her."
Smriti visited two assembly segments of Navsari and Jalapore in Navsari district and sat with voters and also had a cup of tea in their traditional style. She met women and senior citizens in Pritam Nagar, Sindhi Camp, Patel Nagar and Nutan Society and delivered Prime Minister Narendra Modi's message on the need to strengthen democracy by exercising their right to franchise. She asked them to ensure that they voted for BJP candidate on December 9. Assembly elections will be held in Gujarat in two phases on December 9 and 14. She later inaugurated the BJP media centre in Surat.
