Are womenfunny? Joinconversation with city’s Ranis

BENGALURU: The first edition of Bangalore Rani is being organised on November 11, by Atta Galata in collaboration with SheThepeople.TV (digital storytelling platform for women). The event is to prove wrong the notion that women cannot write humor or be funny. The organisers hope to have a discussion “without becoming hysterical” with panelists “who have their humour firmly in place.” The panelists are authors Andallib Wajid and Rachana Singh and the moderator Sunanyana Roy.

”Humour is an essential tool for women to speak about their concerns,” says event organiser and writer Kiran Manral.Andaleeb, who has published 13 novels over the last eight years, says, “Humour is not easy to write but then there are other time, it come naturally. I can’t force it.” She writes across genres including young adult, romance, horror and humour. The ones that reflect her sense of humour are Asmara’s Summer, The Crunch Factor and A Sweet Deal.

Rachna Singh wrote her popular and hilarious book Band, Bajaa and Boys when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. “Humour comes naturally to me and it was writing this book that kept me positive,” she says, adding, “writing is an escape and humor conceals all the struggles of life.” She is an HR Professional and considers Baby Doll Main Sone Di her anthem. Sunanyana Roy is a writer and a prominent blogger.

Shaili Chopra, award winning journalist and founder of SheThePeople.TV,  says, “We want to celebrate women from different cities. SheThePeople runs programmes like these to increase dialogue among women and shift the spotlight to them. The idea is to bring women together for creative projects and engage with them on writing and publishing.”
