New Jersey-headquartered firm was hived off the parent company Xerox this year and Prasad is responsible for further developing the $6.5-bn company's presence in India.
Bengaluru: Business process services company Conduent says there has been significant progress in India's positioning and the newly-formed firm will have India as an important delivery center.

"We created a geography-based strategy which is the primary goal. There was no geography strategy before now we have created one in which India will play a very important role for all sorts of delivery," said Lokesh Prasad, CEO of Conduent India.

The New Jersey headquartered firm was hived off the parent company Xerox in the beginning of 2017 and Prasad is responsible for further developing the $6.5 bn company's presence in India.

Conduent lab in India acts as a innovation center where solutions which come out of India are being implemented in the US. A majority of their revenue comes from markets in North America and Western Europe.

"When I joined 9 months ago to what we are today, we've made a significant progress and position in India. The transformation is because we've made significant progress in the way India was positioned earlier vs now." Prasad said.

Conduent has a strong play in transportation and healthcare solutions amongst others. For instance, the company secured a one-year pilot program for LA Express Park funded by a $15 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and $3.5 million in city funds centered around a 4.5 square miles in downtown Los Angeles.

By infusing technology with demand-based pricing, city officials hoped to change driver behavior and balance demand by achieving 10-30% of the parking spaces on each block being available throughout the day.

"When I joined we discussed India will be the technology and innovation hub, starting from January, we were 1000 people at work and right now we are 2000 people. We are on the right path," Prasad said.

In India, the Go Bengaluru app created by them offers a multimodal solution that integrates all the available transit methods of getting around the city. The app aims at improving the quality of intra-city travel by offering combinations of cheaper, faster and more sustainable travel options to commuters with the convenience of a smart app.

"This is the first app aggregator to include Bengaluru's new metro line along with BMTC bus services," said Prasad. "We recently updated our Go Bengaluru App to include a great Ride Sharing feature, which was developed here in the India labs". The app has between 5000 - 10,000 downloads in the app store.

In terms of positioning, Prasad said that the company is focusing on automation, analytics, artificial intelligence, and mobility. Globally close to 90,000 people work under Conduent.
