Shahid Kapoor starrer Batti Gul Meter Chalu, which addresses the issue of electricity bills, will hit the theaters on August 31, 2018. Helmed by the maker of Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer superhit film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Shree Narayan Singh, the film will be produced jointly by T-Series and KriArj Entertainment.

“With TSeries we celebrate Janamasthami with Batti Gul Meter Chalu… this Shahid Kapoor starrer, directed by Shree Narayan Singh to release on 31st Aug 2018,” tweeted the official twitter handle of KriArj Entertainment.

With another social drama, Shree Narayan hopes to cement his place in Bollywood. The film puts forth the contradiction between the long hours of power cuts and the ironical high electricity bills that dig a hole in the common man’s pocket.

Earlier in an interview to PTI, Shree Narayan talked about working with Shahid Kapoor and said, “With films like Kaminey, Jab We Met, Haider and Udta Punjab, Shahid Kapoor has definitely proved his mettle as an actor. Having said that, his star presence is undeniable and I look forward to working with him.”

The makers of the film had earlier released a first look of the film, which is expected to go on floors soon.

Shahid Kapoor is currently gearing up for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmavati where he will be seen portraying the role of Maharawal Ratan Singh. The film also features Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. The film is set to hit the screens on December 1.
