Negating the 1994 Parliament resolution that the whole of Jammu and Kashmir is part of India, Opposition National Conference president and MP Farooq Abdullah Saturday said that Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) belongs to Pakistan and not India.
"In plain terms let me tell to one and all that PoK belongs to Pakistan and this side to India. It is something that won't change, even if India and Pakistan fight as many wars as they want to," he said on the sidelines of a function at the NC headquarters in Srinagar.
Farooq, who represents Srinagar Parliament constituency in the Lok Sabha, reminded the Centre of the Instrument of Accession signed by the then Maharaja of J&K with the Government of India.
"You don't remember the instrument of accession and claim the other side of Kashmir administered by Pakistan. If that side is our then you should talk about the accession too. Why do you forget the conditions on which we have acceded," the NC chief asked.
Farooq, also a former Union minister, blamed New Delhi for betraying Kashmiris. "India didn't treat us well. India betrayed us. They didn't recognize the love with which we chose to join them. That is the reason behind the current situation in Kashmir," he said.
While reiterating the demand for restoration of internal autonomy to the state, the NC chief said,"Internal autonomy is our right. They should restore it. Only then the peace will return."
However, while ruling out independence as an option, Farooq said, "It (independence) is not a reality as we are landlocked and surrounded by nuclear powers China, Pakistan and India."
He refused to comment about the Hurriyat's demand for a plebiscite as per the UN resolutions saying, "Farooq Abdullah is not part of Hurriyat. I can't talk on behalf of or about Hurriyat."
