Video | Shah Rukh Khan gets an earful from Maharashtra MLC: You may be a superstar, but you don’t own Alibaug

Shah Rukh Khan was returning to Mumbai after celebrating his 52nd birthday when the incident happened.

Shah Rukh Khan creates much frenzy among his fans whenever he makes a public appearance. But sometimes it is his superstardom which creates trouble for others. Recently, a video that has gone viral on the internet has Maharashtra MLC Jayant Patil venting out his anger at SRK in Alibaug where the actor went to celebrate his 52nd birthday. In the video, the MLC is heard shouting in Marathi at the actor who was sitting on his yacht, “You may be a superstar but that doesn’t mean you have own the entire Alibaug.”

Talking to The Times of India about what transpired between him and Shah Rukh Khan, Maharashtra MLC Jayant Patil said, “I was at gate no 1 of Gateway of India on November 3, 2017, around noon. Actor Shah Rukh Khan was seen on a boat. He gestured at the crowd from the boat, blew kisses, said hi, hello etc. His gesturing continued for around 15 to 20 minutes from the boat. Many people, including tourists to Gharapuri were waiting to board the boats. I was to board a boat to Alibaug. We all were inconvenienced, as his boat was docked to the staircase.”

“In between, the police on ‘bandobast’ duty started pushing people to control the crowd. One of the police personnel pushed me. One senior police officer identified me and made way for me. Then I boarded my boat after first getting into a boat, which had Shah Rukh Khan on board, that was docked near the staircase. I came to know the actor was going to his farmhouse in Alibaug for his birthday. The actor should have come out of the boat on to an open space in Gateway of India to greet or be with his fans, rather than inconvenience citizens travelling to Alibaug,” added Patil.

On November 2, Shah Rukh was in Alibaug to ring in his birthday with close friends and family including Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, his wife Gauri Khan, daughter Suhana and little one AbRam. As per reports, while he boarded his yacht, at the same time Patil came on the spot as he too had to board his yacht to his home in Raigad, Colaba. But since Shah Rukh was present at the spot, a huge crowd gathered on the shore to catch a glimpse of their favourite star and it got difficult for Patil to reach his yacht. This further aggravated the situation and on reaching the yacht the MLC yelled at the actor for not getting out and creating trouble for him.

As seen in the video, the moment Patil went away with his yacht, Shah Rukh deboarded the yacht in the midst of loud cheers from his fans waiting on the shore.

During a press conference on his birthday on November 2, Shah Rukh said, “Honestly, I think the longevity of stardom will be less in future, unlike our time, because of the simple logic of faster reach to the audience. I think the concept of superstardom will change. In fact, it has started changing.”
