What ban? It’s business as usual for trucks, masons

GURUGRAM : Despite orders from NGT and district administration, construction activities continued in full swing at a few places in the city on Friday.

TOI, during a realty check, found that construction activities were going on at four places — Golf Course Road, Golf Course Road Extension and Palam Vihar — which was in violation of the construction norms put in place by ministry of environment, forest and climate change (MoEF&CC).

While construction was going on at a builder's floor in Golf Course Road and Palam Vihar, the trucks were seen carrying construction material to a construction site on Golf Course Road Extension.

"We are witnessing rampant construction in the area. There are at least 10 under-construction houses in the colony. Not only they violate NGT norms now, but these construction sites have been violating government norms all throughout the year. We are shocked that the authorities are keeping their eyes closed," said VMK Singh, a resident of Suncity, a township along Golf Course Road Extension.

Jasvinder Kaur, a resident of Espace (Nirvana) on Golf Course Road Extension said, "Even after the NGT's ban on construction activities, we saw many trucks carrying construction material to the under-construction sites that are there across Golf Course Road Extension. The road is literally a gas chamber. The moment you reach Golf Course Road Extension, you see thick dust clouds all over. We are so worried that we are not letting our kids go out at all."

Not only construction, TOI found out that dumped C&D waste at many places along Golf Course Road and Golf Course Road Extension. "If the authorities can't lift waste dumped along the roads, they should immediately cover the waste and sprinkle water on it. However, we didn't see any action even after strict directions by NGT," said Suman Yadav, a resident of Sector 57.

Jai Bhagwan, regional officer, Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) assured that action will be taken. "We will take strict action as per the law against the construction sites that continue to operate despite NGT's directions. There is a provision of penalty of Rs 5 lakh and legal action against offenders," he said.
