The last quarter of the year is filled with festivities and is also a time for wedding bells. And, everyone wants to look his/her best. Gaudy lehengas and heavy saris are a big no-no this season.
The sheer variety of options on Instagram, Pintrest and shopping sites can get your head reeling. What if you end up spending your month’s salary on a designer outfit? Instead you could find the perfect material and get it stitched by your trusted neighbourhood tailor.
The next question is, how do you best pair your outfit? Many of us, are fond of doing make-up ourselves, but end up looking pale. Some of us never seem to get that perfect winged eyeline or can’t seem to figure out which shade of lipstick to wear with the outfit.
To ease the confusion, let’s see what fashion experts have to say.

This season it is about looking stunning without too much effort. For a simple, contemporary look, you could opt for cigarette pants and a long jacket; you can’t go wrong with it. If you would like to take it a notch higher, opt for a chic lehenga that allows you to move about. Floral, printed or heavy embroidered blouses with a simple, bright lehenga are perfect. But, if you have already worn a lehenga last year, then opt for a dhoti-styled kurti or dhoti pants with a crop top or cape.
Keep your make-up light and fresh for that flawless look. Highlighter should be your go-to product to achieve that. You should either go for bold lips with colours like wine and plum and keep your eye make-up simple. Or you can create a slightly more dramatic look with brown smokey eyes, statement lashes and natural pink or nude lips. To top it all, make sure to use a peach blush to give yourself a youthful, healthy glow.
For your hair, go for a fishtail braid or a messy side bun. If you would rather let your hair down, side swept hair should be your go-to style. Create a side parting, use a curling iron to create some loose curls and you are done.

We say saris are definitely the it garments worn with experimental drapes and innovative blouse options. A garment as versatile as the sari, with six yards of unstitched fabric, can let a woman flaunt her curves and look graceful. Handlooms such as Banarasi, Paithani, Bandhej or Kanjivaram are always in fashion and look great if paired with vintage blouses.
One tip for this season is go metallic.

During the festive season, one should wear something that resonates with the festival’s traditions. A sari never goes out of fashion, whether it is loaded with heavy embroidery, or is just a plain silk drape. To add to the drama, try pairing colours such as lemon yellow with sea green or dark red with bottle green. If you are not fond of ethnic wear, you can go for a fusion look and opt for long skirts that can be paired with long flared kurtas. You can even jazz up your dresses with georgette or silk capes.

This season is all about getting creative, mixing and matching, and going bold. I suggest smudged kajal for a fusion look. Also, if you have fuller lips, go in for bold lipstick shades. You can also use jewel tone eyeliners such as green, blue or emerald. The wedding season is all about colours and shimmer, so I advise creative make-up and if you are going for a dark shade of lipstick be subtle with your eye make-up.
