Qarib Qarib Singlle has started on a decent note earning Rs 1.75 crore on its first day. Directed by Tanuja Chandra, the romantic comedy stars Irrfan Khan and Parvathy in lead roles. Qarib Qarib Singlle is also the Bollywood debut of actor Parvathy who hails from Kerala and has been active in films down south.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures. “#QaribQaribSinglle Fri ₹ 1.75 cr. India biz… Expected to witness growth over the weekend,” he said.

The earnings of Qarib Qarib Singlle is expected to grow considerably over the weekend thanks to strong word-of-mouth and mostly positive reviews that it is receiving. It may not have started like a blockbuster, but it should easily cover its budget and then some. Currently, it has strong competitors in the form of Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, Ittefaq and Thor: Ragnarok, but if all goes well, the film should do well because of large Irrfan Khan fanbase and a general love for light-hearted comedies Indian public seems to have.

Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta gave a positive review of Qarib Qarib Singlle. “There’s a lot going on between Yogi and Jaya, and that’s what we want in relationship dramas, this awareness of each other that builds slowly yet steadily. Director Tanuja Chandra returns after a sizeable gap, and delivers a well-crafted, winsome rom-com. It is mostly so right that you are compelled to ignore that eye-roll of a reason that leads to the journey, a few flat moments and underlined scenes – zooming into faces to tell us how the character is feeling – especially one in which one of them, finally, grows up. At the end of it, you hope that their relationship status will change to Kareeb Kareeb Couple. I walked out smiling, and sighing. With pleasure,” she said.
