Two college students killed in motorbike accident

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two college students were killed in an accident after their motorcycle collided head-on with a scooter and an autorickshaw at Kamaleshwaram on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Aravind, 19, son of Sivaprasad and Beena of Aruvi, Mannamoola, Peroorkada, and Adityan, 19, son of Anil Kumar and Preetha of Sindooram, Vattiyoorkavu. Two passengers on the scooter and the auto driver also suffered injuries in the accident.

According to Medical College Hospital sources, the condition of the auto driver identified as Shahjahan is critical. The city traffic police have registered a case in connection with the accident. The police said the accident took place around 1.30 pm when the youths, who are  first-year degree students of the National College of Arts and Science at Kamaleshwaram, were returning home on the motorcycle.

Eye-witnesses said they were travelling at a high speed. When they reached the school at Kamaleshwaram, the vehicle lost control and hit a scooter and again rammed against an autorickshaw. The autorickshaw driver was injured when his head struck the windshield of the vehicle after he braked suddenly.

Though the passers-by took the students, the auto driver and the couple on the scooter to the Medical College, the students were declared dead on arrival. The passengers on the scooter, Thayub and Thahira, have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital and their condition is not serious while Shahjahan has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. The bodies of the students have been shifted to the morgue of the Medical College Hospital and a post-mortem will be held on Saturday. Aravind leaves behind a brother Aswin and Adityan also leaves behind a brother Abhinav, the police said.

Channel cameraman dies in road mishap

T’Puram:A 56-year-old man was killed in an accident after a motorcycle he was riding collided head-on with a tempo van at Neyyattinkara here on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Radhakrishnan, son of Thankappan Pillai,  a resident of Kuzhivilakathu Veedu, Kalluvila, R C Street. Radhakrishnan was a cameraman of Surya TV. The Neyyattinkara police have registered a case in connection with the accident. According to the police, the accident took place around 2.15 pm when he left the residence which is 20 metres away from the accident spot. Soon, a speeding tempo van lost control and collided head-on with the motorcycle. Though he was taken to General Hospital at Neyyattinkara, his life could not be saved. The body has been handed over to relatives after a post-mortem examination. He leaves behind wife Sathyabhama and two sons Akshay, Jagan, police said.
