PANAJI: The BJP has alleged that the Congress was misguiding the people over coal pollution in the port town, and said that those who bitterly complain against coal transportation should stop using electricity.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, spokesperson Dattaprasad Naik said that in addition to coal, even the casinos which they oppose vehemently, were brought by the Congress to Goa.

Naik criticized Congress MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco for his scathing attack on the BJP-led government. The latter had accused the government of turning a blind eye towards coal pollution in Vasco. The BJP spokersperson also said that the protests against coal transportation and the demand for a ban on it was motivated.

"One cannot be against coal per se," he said, adding those residing in the region where power is being generated from coal are suffering, and others including Goa, get their power from there.
