Files complaint at Halasooru police station

Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer K. Mathai, on Thursday, filed a police complaint against the BBMP’s accounts department for allegedly misappropriating his General Provident Fund, which he claims amounted to ₹3.1 lakh including interest.

In his complaint to the Halasooru police, Mr. Mathai said that the BBMP official concerned used to deduct ₹15,000 from his salary towards GPF every month for two years between 2014 and 2016 while he was serving as Assistant Commissioner. When he later checked with the department of provident fund, he was informed that no deposits had been made into his account.

Alleging that the BBMP’s accounts department refused to respond to his queries, Mr. Mathai asked the police to probe the matter and take penal action against the official concerned for misusing funds.

He requested the police to recover the amount due to him from the civic body.

Case taken up

Based on his complaint, the Halasooru police have taken up a case under Section 406 of the Indian Penal Code against the Chief Accounts Officer at BBMP, and are verifying the documents provided by Mr. Mathai to substantiate his claim.

BBMP Chief Accounts Officer Mahadev said the transactions were done before his tenure. He added that earlier, the civic body would deposit the PF amount as a lump sum and sometimes this led to the money not being credited to all the employee accounts. Such money would have been credited to the suspense account. “We will verify the particular case and most likely the issue will be resolved,” he said.
