Don't distort facts in 'Padmavati', says Rajasthan minister Rajendra Rathore

JAIPUR/UDAIPUR: It was the turn of parliamentary affairs minister Rajendra Singh Rathore to come out against Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming film 'Padmavati' on Thursday.

When asked about the controversy at a press conference, Rathore, a Rajput himself, said, "Historical facts should not be distorted. The filmmakers should stick to the agreement they made with the aggrieved parties."

Meanwhile, various erstwhile royal families of Rajasthan too raised their concerns on the distortion of history the film.

Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Mahasabha (ABKM) too organized a meeting to discuss the protest strategy. "We demand ban on the movie as it hurts the sentiments of Kshatriyas (Rajputs) in Rajasthan and other parts of the country," said Umaid Singh, president, ABKM Rajasthan.

He said the Rajputs were the epitome of sacrifice and solidarity and any wrong depiction of the community would not be tolerated. "It is totally intolerable. We will not allow the film to be screened in Rajasthan at any cost," Singh added.

Workers of Karni Sena continued distributing their request letters to cinema exhibitors asking them not to release the film. "The response by exhibitors is good. We hope they will cooperate," said a spokesperson of Karni Sena.

Film distributors in the state had earlier warned that they would not take up the film for distribution in Rajasthan until the community and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali sorted out issues.
