“The raids seem to be unending. But what is the motive? ...,'' he says.

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Thursday said there was no point commenting on the searches conducted by the Income Tax Department on the premises owned by V.K. Sasikala and her family members when the fate of other similar exercises carried out against prominent persons in Tamil Nadu in the recent past was not known.

“The raids seem to be unending. But what is the motive? I can comment only after meeting the Union Minister, who is holding the portfolio of Income Tax and senior officials about the previous raids,” he told journalists in Chennai.

Mr. Stalin recalled the series of income tax searches conducted at the houses of Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar, former Chief Secretary P Rama Mohana Rao and sand mining baron Sekar Reddy (all in the past year), as well as former Minister Natham Viswanathan, former Mayor Saidai Duraisamy and Anbunathan of Karur (suspected to be a frontman of some politicians).

There was no report on the outcome of those exercises, Mr. Stalin pointed out.
